Can you guess who this celebrity is? In 1938 this soon to be famous entertainer was arrested on charges of “Seduction and Adultery” with a married woman. The charges were eventually dropped.
If you guessed “Ol’ Blue Eyes”, Frank Sinatra, then you were right. I found his mug shot on one of many new sites that are cashing in on Americans interest in police mug shot photos. The bizarre thing, as this CNN article points out, is that not only is there interest in the celebrity photos of Paris Hilton, John Daly and Mel Gibson, but just regular people and their mug shots warrant almost as much of a stir.
I will have to admit that I have explored some of these sites before. Mostly out sheer curiosity, but facilitated by the convenience of the internet. Whether it is news about a new celebrity in trouble or news of a “friend of a friend” that was arrested, these sites can guarantee a great deal of interest from the public.
But is it fair? In today’s age where information is so readily disseminated, should people spend a lifetime of embarrassment with their mug shot searchable on the internet? I’m sure some would say that, if you did the crime you should face the consequences. But what if you were arrested and the charges were dismissed like our legendary singer above? Do you deserve to be scorned for something you legally never did?
Feel free to talk amongst yourselves…
